Google added Bitcoin icon on Apple keyboard
The global search engine giant, Google has reportedly added a Bitcoin symbol to its virtual keyboard for iOS devices. This is the first time that a cryptocurrency symbol will feature as an icon alongside fiat currencies like Dollar, Pounds, Euro etc. As per the reports of local US–media, Google’s virtual keyboard is availed for the iOS devices only whereas the Apple’s native keyboard and Android’s virtual keyboard doesn’t feature any cryptocurrency icon yet. Bitcoin icon on Apple keyboard came as a surprise for the Android users given that the versions such as Nougat, Oreo and Pie were expected to first implement the feature, ultimately backed by Google.
As of now, Google has introduced this feature only for Apple. You can avail the application “Gboard” from the app store on your iPhone and iPad. Consequently, Vitalik Buterin had thoughts over his Ethereum to be marked on the keyboard as well. So he took his feelings to the twitter to ask Google whether there is any possibility to add ETH icon after Bitcoin icon on Apple keyboard.
Google while putting Bitcoin icon on Apple keyboard, however, opposed Buterin’s ideas which clearly states that the Ethereum’s dream would be in the dreams:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST REGARDING OUR KEYBOARD PRODUCT. WE REGRETFULLY HAVE TO INFORM YOU THAT GOOGLE WILL NOT ADD ANY OTHER CRYPTO ICONS TO THE KEYBOARD BESIDES BITCOIN BECAUSE WE BELIEVE EVERYTHING ELSE IS LEGALLY QUESTIONABLE AND LONG-TERM NOT VIABLE.
This tweet from Google came as heartbreaking for all the Altcoins, especially Ethereum. Part of the communities believes that Google’s unfavourable reply might have related to the fact where Vitalik Buterin asked his millions of followers in an online poll regarding his switch to Google leaving behind Ethereum. Eventually, he would have got an offer from Google which he intentionally turned down.
Rumours are rumours, but it’s interesting to note that Google has finally taken its first step in the crypto-space. However Google-made artificial intelligence once regarded Bitcoin as a “collapsed economic matter”.
No matter what the artificial conscience says, this move will aid in the recognition of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Cryptocurrencies have been looking for mass adoption for quite a sometime and visibility is one of the stepping stone towards that achievement.
In the 10 years of its existence, amidst all the scam convictions and bear-market struggles, Bitcoin has finally been given the reputation by the search engine giant. The revolutionary fintech concept which was only a jargon among the tech communities will now be ingrained in the knowledge of non-crypto enthusiasts and average phone users.
